Long known as a hub for electronic and comic geeks, Tokyo’s Akihabara district is now a battleground for role-play based maid cafes. In the latest twist to popular maid cafes, Japanese boys cross-dress and fill in for women to serve the patrons.

“Bakabakashii” is how maids in this unique troupe explain its appeal.That means silly. Hibaritei features “maids” who are men. In Akihabara, it’s common to see men dressed as maids or their favorite anime characters, but this trend has reached new heights with the launch of cross-dressing maid troupe Hibaritei. In a twist, the cross-dressing maids are all weekday salarymen who are straight, most having girlfriends. These men are not financially troubled in any way. Most work in IT companies and come to Akiba often because of work.

[Dear non-German-speaking readers, this is a short article referring to a German TV movie about a "paedophiliac" relationship between a 17 and a 12 year old boy. I had not the slightest hunch about the heated debate that was caused by this article. I know it sucks but I can't translate the whole discussion. I'll try to minimize the quantity of German articles in future ok?] 

Die ARD schickt sich in ein paar Minuten (20:15 Uhr) an, uns mit einem weiteren Drama darüber zu unterhalten, dass Pädos früher oder später immer zu vergewaltigenden Monstern werden und sich deshalb um jeden Preis von ihrer krankhaften Neigung heilen lassen müssen etc. pp. *sigh* In Ermangelung eines Fernsehers werd ich’s mir nicht ansehen können aber ich bin gespannt auf die Nachbesprechung bei Herbst in der Seele - ich hege ja naiverweise einen kleinen Funken Hoffnung, dass der Film doch irgendwie aus der Klischeeschiene ausbricht… immerhin ist der “Täter” diesmal kein bierbäuchiger Rentner.

I went to the Leipzig Book Fair with my boyfriend yesterday (that’s why you got no milk, sorry) and he found something cute but stupid on a Mac at the booth of the TV channel arte (which is quite cool)… Dear arte team, if you give us shiny Macs to play with… don’t “hide” your passwords on the desktop ;p

Besides that we didn’t see much cool stuff… I was kinda excited to find out about the new audio books from Titania Medien, grabbed some prospectuses of my favourite publishing houses like Piper, dtv, Suhrkamp and Lübbe and was disappointed to see none of the really cool ones like Festa or MännerSchwarm. I’m there again on Saturday - if you wanna meet up, let me know! For the rest of you: Next post will have boys in it again ;)

Wahrlich nicht sein lustigster Beitrag zur satarisch ausschweifenden Rezeption unserer unsäglichen Popkultur aber da es thematisch halbwegs gut passte und weil ich Oscar Wilde so abgöttisch liebe kam ich nicht umhin euch an diesem Stück teilhaben zu lassen. Over half a million photos have been leaked on BitTorrent, and the catch here is that all the leaked photos have been taken from private albums on MySpace. Sounds cool right? But since you can’t upload nude shots to MySpace it’s not that exciting. I checked the first 32 000 photos and the best photo I got was the one below. Next time they should try PhotoBucket xD

Apparently, a video made at the party featuring sex acts between a female minor and a male minor was found in his room. Corey was arrested today, but has since been bailed out. He is due in court Feb. 22 to face these charges.  /rimmer
