milkboys’ future

As you may have noticed the server running milkboys was extremely slow during the early evening hours over the last weeks. That wasn’t really a surprise considering the growing number of people stopping by — more than 17,000 unique visitors every day just for the blog adding to the people visiting the board and the other blogs we host.
That’s why we decided to upgrade the server once again. We’re on a Intel Xenon Quad Core CPU now, got 4 GB RAM, and, maybe most important for future projects, we can use 10,000 GB of bandwidth per month now. This gives us the chance to let the blog run smooth while we add new features and can post more videos ;o) We’re working on a lot of stuff including a complete re-design of the blog, a social network connecting the board and the blog and some other things I will announce later ;) Besides that we can host more personal blogs for gay teens who don’t want to get kicked by Blogger and even give a few selected pictures blogger a safe home.
The downside is that we have to pay more for the server of course. The new hardware costs $ 280 per month (the old one was $ 200). So, if you feel like supporting our efforts: Donations are welcome :) Just contact me if you want to help out. Thanks!

Short Recap

We were pretty busy over the last weeks, so I’ll do a quick recap of some things that we did lately :)

We started a blog – called Oscillating Wildly – with a new approach. It’s a collaboration blog, which means that pretty much every body can post there whatever they want. Pictures, videos, articles, and other interesting titbits. I use it as a kind of Tumblr but you can use it in a completely different way of course. [more info] |
You can host your own personal blog at milkboys now! You’ll get web space, a milkboys domain and tech support to switch over with your existing blog or start a new one here. Please mind that this is primarily an offer to queer teens to host journals and not meant to be for pictures blogs and such things. [more info] |

After many complaints about TinyChat we switched to IRC finally thanks to Nimatek. You can use a web interface to get there or set up your own client (server: irc.mibbit.com, channel: #milkboys). There is a thread in the milkboard which tells you about some IRC basics if you’re new to it. [more info] |
What else? I hope I can expand and stabilise the features we have and we’re working on some exciting things for the future besides that. I’m excited to announce one of our new projects, more to come :)
We were talking in the milkchat tonight about how it would be nice to have a safe place for all the Gay Youth Bloggers out there to host their blogs. A place they can rely on and trust in, where they won’t get kicked for random reasons like it happens at services like Blogger. Since we have way more web space on the milboys server than we need… I thought we could just create such a place right here, right now! :D

A boy with hair longer than an inch is what? A girl? Or filthy? Gimme a break. Could you people please forget your stupid prejudices you learned about “hippies” and “commies”? You don’t like longer hair? Fine. That doesn’t mean you have to assume everyone who does is scruffy and indecent. Fuck off my pond, will you?

I’m getting a bit tired of hearing uneducated wanna-be-moralists calling milkboys a "creepy pedo site". Get your facts right kids. Paedophilia is about kids under the age of 13 while this blog is about teenagers. It’s not my business if you think a site with pictures of teenage boys is creepy even if that site gets visited by a good amount of other teenage boys (and girls). But – at least – keep your stupid hypocrisy to yourself. You know, there is a world outside of your little Pleasantville .
A world where someone who is 17 isn’t called a child, where a picture of a clothed boy isn’t called porn, where rape of little boys isn’t the first thing that comes to your mind when you see a photo of a teenager, a world where people are not getting brainwashed by Nazi Christians to think people are child molesters if they think it should be OK to appreciate teenage boys if you guys are fine with getting off to the girls in High School Musical or that Gays should only love men who are looking like the Village People. Maybe you should check your world view or just fuck the hell off. kthx :)

We show off the 10 most recent donations in the sidebar from now on to give the people who help us paying the server bill of $ 200 per month a bit more publicity :) You can decide which name we’ll use and if you want your name to be linked with a website (e.g. your blog). Besides that I’d like to thank everyone who has donated and everyone who will donate! When we had to switch to our own server I was quite concerned if we will be able to pay the server but you guys are showing great support and it needs usually just a few days every month to get the money for the next bill together :) Thanks!

A while ago we placed a banner in the footer to earn some money for the bills of the milkboys server which costs $ 200 per month. The ad program shows apparently mostly straight porn ads. Considering this is a gay blog it’s no surprise that not many people are interested in such ads. So we get only an average of $ 1,50 per day for the clicks on this banner. This means we have to pay more than 50% of the monthly costs with your donations.
Since I hate asking for your money we would like to try something new: We sell the ads on this blog by ourselves. This has some advantages over the current situation:
- You will most likely see ads which are really interesting (e.g. for other gay blogs and sites).
- We can chose if we want to use an ad (no more disgusting straight hardcore porn).
- We will probably earn more money so wee need less donations, maybe none at all.
