Over the last month we collected the money to pay for the milkboys server until April 2009 — thanks a lot for your support! And as promised we have picked 5 random winners out of all donors who will get an account for The Fall Out Boys X - the naughty brother of the popular emo boy blog The Fall Out Boys. Thanks a lot to their webmaster for giving away five accounts for the milkboys fans! :o) There will be a new prize next month.

I’m thinking of way to reward the people who donate to milkboys since a while. There was the idea of some kind of “premium content” but I discarded this soon because I don’t wanna split the readers into classes. The Internet should stay remain neutral everywhere, everyone should be able to get the same content even if he can’t afford a donation (what I really understand!). But I couldn’t run this site without the donors so they should get a little “Thank You”. I came up with this:

From next month on (May the 1st) we will randomly select someone out of all donors who will win a little prize: This time it’s the current issue of Destroyer. Next time it will be something completely different :)

We have upgraded milkboys to the latest and greatest version of WordPress a few hours ago. Most of the changes are of a technical nature but there is one thing that’s new for you: You can have a gravatar. A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is quite simply an avatar image that follows you from weblog to weblog appearing beside your name when you comment on gravatar enabled sites. Avatars help identify your posts on web forums, so why not on weblogs? Signing up for a gravatar is free, and all that’s required is your e-mail address. Once you’ve signed up you can upload your avatar image and soon after you’ll start seeing it on gravatar enabled weblogs like milkboys!

Password Problems

Some people were not able to get into the protected posts. I fixed something in the PHP code of a cache plugin for the blog and now it should work again for everybody! So the password is back again. It’s the same as before. If you don’t know the password you can get it here.

Vicious Videos

If you had problems playing some videos here with Firefox or Opera you should be able to watch them now. Sorry for the trouble, I didn’t see the problem earlier since I use Maxthon Browser which played the videos all the time. There is a strange problem with Rapidshare and the Flash Player which I avoid by upload the videos to our server at the moment but we have to find a new video host soon :(

Yeah, I ripped of this idea of communication with my readers from the great artist Dennis Cooper (I want a stone from de Sades castle too so bad! How did you get that?). I guess it will be helpful since more and more mails get lost in spam folders, people tend to ignore answers to older comments,  I’m officially to busy to use Instant Messengers and, to be honest, too lazy to write mails for just one question. So let’s ignore my creepy English and start off:

Hey folks, we need a site to host some videos. They should allow “adult content”, have a nice looking embeddable flash player, allow uploads of at least 100 MB and shouldn’t be offline every 2 days of course. Please leave a comment if you have a suggestion for us!

UPDATE:

Thanks for you suggestions! For the moment we’ll use our own server to host the files and embed them with a flash player. That’s the safest and most reliable solution yet. If you want to see an example try this post.

Sorry for the downtime this morning (CET) folks. Our hosting provider mailed us to let us know that milkboys is using nearly all the CPU power on the shared server  we use - there are more than 100 people online here simultaneous sometimes - so something had to be done. They suggested that we should upgrade to another product (WebPack Pro XXL) but € 65 (~ $ 100) per month is, even with your kind donations, far too expensive for us. So we upgraded to a smaller pack (WebPack Pro L) which costs € 20 (~ $ 30) per month and hope that’s ok for the moment.

You will see some exciting new things at milkboys in the future. They will cost a lot of work and traffic so pleae excuse this last begging post ;p

This site couldn’t exist without the generous donations from our visitors. We know that not eveyrbody can afford 10 $ or more for a donation. But many people can afford spending a few cents. Now you can tip us with such small amounts every time you want to! Just cklick the official milkBOY below. :D We use a system called Tipit - you enter how much you want to give and they’ll do the rest. The money will be transferred via PayPal (free of charge for you). We get your money as soon as you spend 3 $ or more, so it would be helpful if you give away at least this amount ;) (you can tip other sites too of course).

I have to host milkboys on an own server since services like Blogger would kick content like this sooner or later. The hosting, traffic and domains for this and the other sites in the milkboys network costs about € 11 (= $ 16) per month.  And the traffic will increase in the future with the new planned feautres. I could place ads on the blog but I would feel somehow dirty ><
