Lesbian and gay and sexual health groups from Jamaica, Zimbabwe and Egypt have been excluded from a major international conference on HIV/AIDS organised by the United Nations General Assembly. The UN meeting is intended to review progress in the fight against AIDS. Representatives of the governments of those three countries, all of which are openly homophobic, complained about the presence of the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR), Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe (GALZ), and the Jamaica Forum for Lesbians, All-Sexuals and Gays (J-FLAG).

Nach Beschwerden von Ägypten, Jamaika und Simbabwe werden drei Homo-Gruppen aus einer Konferenz von UN AIDS ausgeschlossen. Germany has inaugurated a 600,000 euro concrete memorial to honour the thousands of homosexuals persecuted by the Nazis between 1933 and 1945. The four-metre high monument, which has a window showing a film of two men kissing, was unveiled in Berlin. The Nazis branded homosexuality an aberration threatening their perception of Germans as the master race, and 55,000 gay men were deemed criminals.

I was a bit uneasy with it when I first saw it cause it’s so… ugly.

In Berlin ist das Mahnmal für im Nationalsozialismus verfolgte Homosexuelle eingeweiht worden. Es zeigt zwei sich küssende Männer und ist Anlass für Streit. Viele Jahre des Streits liegen zwischen der ersten Forderung nach einem eigenen Denkmal für die von den Nazis verfolgten und umgebrachten Homosexuellen und der Einweihung einer zentralen Erinnerungsstätte für sie. Abgesehen vom Holocaust-Mahnmal selbst ist nie so ausgiebig und hitzig über einen Ort des Gedenkens für NS-Opfer debattiert worden, wie über jenes Mahnmal, das nun im Berliner Tiergarten eingeweiht wird.

Italy’s new minister for equal opportunities has angered rights groups by refusing to back a “gay pride” march because, she said, gays no longer suffer discrimination in Italy. The appointment of Mara Carfagna, a 32-year-old former Miss Italy contestant and television showgirl, to the equal opportunities post was seen by some rights groups as a deliberate provocation by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Wer sich im Gegensatz zu Volker Beck & Co. nicht damit abgefunden hat, dass er nach außen den Vorzeige-Schwulen spielen muss, der in monogamer Beziehung lebt, keinen Modetrend verpasst und sich alle Mühe gibt, sich so unauffällig wie nur irgend möglich ins hetero-normative Leben zu integrieren um dann heimlich doch entgegen allem spießigen Anschein wechselnde Partner und wenig konservative Ansichten zu haben wird es bemerkt haben: Die Gesellschaft ist weit davon entfernt, Schwule zu akzeptieren die sich nicht in die konservativ-faschistische Weltsicht der Heteros einpassen wollen indem sie die gutverdienende, asexuelle Modeschwuchtel verkörpern. Ganz im Gegenteil, im Vergleich zu Zeiten vor, sagen wir mal, 30 Jahren, ist gerade bei der vermeintlich auf- und abgeklärten Generation zwischen 15 und 30 ein immer auffälliger werdender Hang zu konservativen Werten und eine damit einhergehende latente Homophobie zu spüren. Getarnt mit viel Gutmenschensprüchen und Pseudo-Liberalismus geraten auch im sich gern weltoffen gebenden Europa immer mehr Menschen ins soziale Hintertreffen die mit “unseren” Ur-Werten von Christentum, Zwei-Geschlechter-System und So-called-Demokratie nichts anfangen können.

Wer meint, dass ihn das nicht betrifft und doch eigentlich alles ganz prima ist, darf sich bei Batz eines Besseren belehren lassen und sich anschließend ein paar Gedanken machen, ob es sich nicht lohnen würde, etwas selbstbewusster zu sein, ein paar Dinge (nochmal) zu hinterfragen, das “PACE” von der Regenbogenflagge zu kratzen und stattdessen Revolution drauf zu schreiben. Selbst wenn das für dich nur heißt, deinen Freund in der vollen U-Bahn zu küssen. Jeder Schritt bringt uns ein Stück weiter, also: Sei mutig!

Today is the International Day Against Homophobia!

In their ever continuing battle to free the Internet, The Pirate Bay has now launched an uncensored blogging service, called BayWords. The service is intended to be a safe haven for bloggers who want to be able to write whatever they want, without being afraid to get shut down by their blog host. The new service is powered by WordPress, and although it doesn’t a full set of features to compete with existing players (like domain redirects) the Pirate Bay team said that they’d add additional features later. Blogs on the service are currently ad free, but will have advertising in the future.

Badly behaved children as young as five should be recorded on the national DNA database, a police chief said yesterday. Gary Pugh, forensic science director for the Metropolitan Police, said children should be ‘targeted’ because future offenders can often be picked out at a young age.

According to the newspaper La Crónica de Hoy more than 1000 “alternative” rock fans, skaters and heavy metal kiddies joined forces to attack a group of emos in Querétaro, Mexico last Friday (March 7th). One of them was nearly lynched as you can see in the video below (Julian posted a translated transcript of the video report in the comment). Three other people were injured and 28 arrested. The police traced the beginnings of the conflict to a campaign in some blogs where emos are portrayed as gay and giving a “bad image” to tourists.  Think of emos whatever you want but I hope one of these homophobic dumbasses got a nice fist into his face. And if your an emo in Mexico who is actually gay… take an advise from Kirk Read: Fight back and beat the shit out of their heads!

Raising the age of consent is a veiled attempt to assert conservative moral values on youth, queer and youth-led groups told Senators today.

The Senate’s legal affairs committee is studying a Harper government bill that would raise the age of consent from 14 to 16. It will almost certainly pass — no political party has opposed it — but queer and youth-led groups came out Feb 22 to insist on their sexual freedom. The proposed changes will have a disproportionate impact on gays, said Richard Hudler of the Coalition for Lesbian and Gay Rights in Ontario.

"My first lover was 17 years older than me. And this is common [among gay people]," he said. "It is dangerous — considering the attitude toward sexual orientation in schools — for a young person to attempt to make sexual contact with a peer."

Das Ermittlungsverfahren der Kölner Staatsanwaltschaft gegen 500 Kölner, die kinderpornografisches Material aus dem Internet heruntergeladen haben sollen, ist eingestellt worden. Die Verdächtigen waren nach einer bundesweiten Razzia ("Operation Himmel") ins Visier der Ermittler geraten. 

Einen wirklich lesensenwerten Kommentar zu den tatsächlichen und - die Medien wird’s nicht freuen - wenig skandalösen Hintergründen der "Operation Mimmel" gibt es bei Schutzalter. Interessant in diesem Zusammenhang ist besonders der Bezug zur geplanten Novellierung des Sexualstrafrechts.

So ganz nebenbei, wird also die "Jugendpornografie", die bis heute noch völlig legal ist, nicht nur kriminalisiert, sondern gleich auch in die Listen der "schwere Straftaten" aufgenommen, die die Telekommunikations- und Wohnraumüberwachung ohne Wissen des Betroffenen rechtfertigen sollen.
