Markus was in Cologne, where I lived a few years, and made some nice photos :) But all the sightseeing aside I liked the shots below. The locks are left by (mostly gay) couples after throwing the key into the river. This symbolic act represents the endless love and relationship.

Markus is an AWESOME photographer. I’ve admired his work for some time
that’s cute, man *-*
Endless love until someone picks the lock maybe
That’s a very interesting ritual.
I’ve been to Köln once, but never had a chance to see the locks. I have only good memories from the visit and was especially impressed by the residential areas in Chorweiler.
Nice photos indeed, and I do like the idea behind the locks. And yeah, you can kind of suppose that if someone put the locks up, that perhaps someone else might try to take them down. But to me, the metaphor of the locks themselves as well as the humorous irony that the hard metal locks represent something soft like love…is quite cool.
I love the walk over the Hohenzollern Brücke. But chained together to be in love?
“endless love and relationship” What a fucking laugh!
very touching, simply lovely.
Is this like the infamous : “underwear tree” , “teakettle tree”,….
Basically an object decorated by spontaneus “gifts”, but of the same kind.
I really like it. Had no idea bout the locks thing. But if I’m really lucky I’ll mimic this with somebody someday.
Thanks for posting it or I would never be able to steal the idea.=o
