Wild Tigers I have known
Logan, soft spoken, lonely and 13 years old, is a boy with a crush. Unlike his equally lonely friend Joey, who obsesses over the sexual exploits of the slightly older, postpubescent boys, Logan is fixated on the boys themselves, particularly Rodeo Walker. Rodeo is the only one of the group of cool kids who shows any friendliness toward Logan, meaning he doesn’t go out of his way to make Logan’s life miserable. As Logan and Rodeo strike up a mismatched friendship, the kind that only works on walks deep into the forest when no one else is around, Logan’s infatuation with Rodeo inspires him to create a new persona named Leah. Leah and Rodeo grow close through whispered phone calls, and when Leah agrees to meet Rodeo face to face, it is Logan who must finally prove that he can ask for what he so achingly wants.
Painfully surreal and remarkably accurate, Wild Tigers I Have Known has all the makings of a controversial movie that will make some right-wingers down right angry. Logan, brilliantly played by Malcolm Stumpf, is an effeminate acting boy who masturbates to visions of boys wrestling in singlets, and doesn’t seem to care what the other school kids say about him. Publicly humiliated and continually called a "Fag" at school, Logan’s only sanctuary from all this ridiculing is his basement and Joey’s bizarre, space-age bedroom. Joey, an equally geeky, but non-gay friend, is a little too dense to see what Logan is all about (even after a penis measuring contest in the closet), but enjoys the sexually-based conversations they usually have about the other boys in the school. When Logan and Rodeo become closer friends, Joey quickly fades from the scene until one day Logan invites Joey over to "show him something."
The moment at the dawn of adolescence when hormones and daydreams swirl into a heady fog of confusion is poetically evoked in Wild Tigers I Have Known. – Stephen Holden, New York Times

Ja, das versteh ich kollio, gerade bei diesem Sujet war das schon eine selten dämliche Reaktion auf kostenlose Werbung in einem Blog.

That film tore my heart out.. Malcolm did an outstanding job playing the quirky, uncomfortable role that is so difficult to capture in front of a camera with any sense of realism. Its sad, but Look at history, Oscars arent given to kids. Tristan

don’t read German and can’t read what kollio and josh had to say about this, but i remember when kollio posted news of this film on his blog last year that CAM ARCHER’s pr guys freaked out and told him to take it down.
maybe ARCHER views this like dennis cooper who feels they get away with this subject by calling it only conceptual and something taking place in their minds only. well at least that cooper’s excuse, i can’t say for sure about ARCHER. only going by what happened on kollio’s blog.
you get too close to the REAL and lots of closet pervs freak.
but the film is ok even though i think cam archer’s music vids are much better.

“Wild Tigers I have known” ist zwar meiner Meinung nach kein absolutes Highlight, aber durchaus sehenswert – wenn auch sicher nicht jedermanns Geschmack. Kommt übrigens demnächst auch in Deutschland auf DVD (mit dt. Untertiteln). Eine Kritik von mir zum Film findet Ihr unter:

Josh, your description tells of a penis-measuring contest. My copy (bought at Amazon.com) doesn’t have that scene. Are there edited and non-edited versions of the movie?

It’s only when you read blogs like this that you learn to be extremely wary of recommended and/or posts about any film on any site; especially; when one realises some ‘reels’ have been horribly and ‘censoriously cut’ of the most pertinent content.

Wow. I just watched this and it’s breath taking. I feel for him so much, how alone he feels.
A tiger comes onto the school campus, they arn’t used to it, they are afraid of it, and they shoot it. No wonder Logan can relate.
