My version:
He is 12 and his mom always wanted a girl but all her children were boys. He was the youngest and was rather raised as a girly so he started to like and accept his role since he was bullied by his elder brothers being a sissy. This pic was when he first went into public with girls clothes and realized how good it felt.
I don’t get any experimenting/exploring vibe from this picture, to be honest. It looks very spur-of-the-moment to me, a boy who was game enough when friends dared him to wear a dress. It doesn’t even look like a real dress actually– just on of those cheap costumes you can find in a halloween store.

Looks like your typical Japanese streetwear (is that hiragana writing on the bottom left?)
The place seems to be a toyshop or giftshop, there are some tags at the back, none that I can see on the boy. ;-) Can’t make out that yellow box.
Not sure about the street, could be the Protax Chinese camera maker, but architecture looks Norther European (Germany, Scotland?) The other word below sounds just right if it is “Temptation”!
Well, the boy seems to enjoy himself anyway, and I did too, maybe he was just back from playing Nanny McPhee… He is the best item in this display room. ;-)

Actually, this is just cosplay lolita. Real Lolita clothing is very well made, with intricate lace, petticoats, bla bla bla. It sometimes crosses over Maid style, but they’re two different things. (I wear lolita) There’s lolita that is made for men, too.
Im not sure, but my guess is that its store called Blippo (www.blippo.com), might be taken in Helsinki, Kamppi, tho not all sure. The store sells all kind of japan popular stuff. Very pink shop.
That seems right. William and Powman got it right too, looks like the Blippo store on Kamppi Center, 2nd floor, Urho Kekkosen katu 1, Helsinki according to the background. I may plan a visit to Helsinki for a really white Xmas…
Actually the thing I like most is the little green bracelet-thing he has on his wrist. He was probably wearing that before he came into the shop. It is clearer in the picture on the Milkboard.
Yup, this picture was taken at Blippo store in Helsinki, that sells anime and manga gear, cartoons and all that sort of stuff. Fun place to visit but 99% of the customers are pre-teen and teenage girls, wouldn’t be surprised if this one is of a girl as well.

The only excuse for a fancy dress is fancy dress.

when your 12 and dress like this it’s cute or even beautiful, but when your 55 0r 60 years old it’s very sad and lonely
