Elsa is married to Raimar, who runs an auto repair shop, and they have a comfortable relationship, with one grown daughter who lives on her own. Elsa is assigned to look into the case of Jan Winkler (Kostja Ullman), who is only sixteen but has a precocious criminal record and was just released from a juvenile detention facility. When Elsa meets Jan for the first time, she senses that he’s attracted to her, and to her surprise he begins stopping by her home, sometimes bringing her gifts. Elsa persuades Raimar to give Jan a part time job at his shop to keep the boy occupied, but this does little to blunt Jan’s ardor, and Raimar strikes up a friendship with him. One night, aware that Jan is watching from the sidewalk, Elsa leaves the curtains open as she makes love with Raimar, which becomes the first step in an erotic relationship with her young client. However, Elsa quickly discovers Jan is a masochist with a deep need to be disciplined during sex, something she’d never encountered with her previous lovers, and her sexual experimentation has a profound effect on her life.

    

Punish Me (alternative title: Hounded), aptly photographed in rich black and white, is a deftly made German film that raises as many questions as disturbing thoughts, a film that in every definition is a film noir -- and a superb one at that. Writer Susanne Billig and director Angelina Maccarone have concocted a tale of disparate matching between a 50-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy, a relationship that builds on sadomasochism as a means of filling voids in each character. The story could easily have become ‘sensational’ in less sensitive hands, but here, with the sound help of a superb and wholly credible cast, it asks us to examine the extremes to which people will go to feel complete.

  • School Spy Program used on US Students contains Hacker friendly Security Hole

A controversial remote administration program that a Pennsylvania school district installed on student-issued laptops contains a security hole that put the students at risk of being spied on by people outside the school, according to a security firm that examined the software. The LANrev program contains a vulnerability that would allow someone using the same network as one of the students to install malware on the laptop that could remotely control the computer. An intruder would be able to steal data from the computer or control the laptop webcam to snap surreptitious pictures. The vulnerability was discovered by researchers at Leviathan Security Group, who began examining the program after customers who saw media coverage of the Pennsylvania case expressed concern that the program might be exposing their employee computers to intrusion from outsiders. The same software is used by many businesses to monitor and maintain their employee laptops.

The Lower Merion School District in Pennsylvania is embroiled in a lawsuit and FBI criminal investigation over use of the LANrev software. The cases involve allegations that administrators spied on students through the software installed on 2,300 school-issued Macbooks. Read on…
