Josh, dear, your love for Sweden is clouding your critical mind. The directive Sweden is refusing to implement, is a Swedish invention. The reason for the refusal is, it’s election year. It is still the fault of Swedish politicians that all of EU is mandated to implement the directive.

What? No :( It was planned in Germany before it was a EU directive. And when it’s a Swedish invention — why is Sweden the only country without the law in effect?

“It’s no secret that I wasn’t very fond of the proposal when it was initiated and I think there is good reason to exercise a certain amount of caution when it comes to gathering information,” said Ask.
I agree with Donri and would like to add that Beatrice Ask is not what the article makes her out to be. In reality she’s deluded by Ecpat and hasn’t proven at all that she cares about integrity.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m surely no fan of the current Swedish government. But at the moment it looks like the left party will make it into the parliament which means a left-green coalition becomes likely. I’m pretty sure things will get better from there.

Hopefully. But the latest Social Democratic minister for justice, Tomas Bodström, even has a pejorative term named after him, “Bodströmsamhället”, because of his ideas about surveillance et c. HE was the guy behind the directive.

Dude, it’s the lefts that pushed for this directive in the EU.
“The Data Retention Directive was championed by former Social Democratic justice minister Thomas Bodström…”
(This Bodström character is also the chairman of Ecpat Sweden.)
Not to say the rights are any better. I hear Swedish politicians vote the same in eight or nine of ten matters in the EU, regardless of affiliation. “Democracy”.

Social Democrats = surely not left, maybe compared to the Moderate Party but still a centre party. The Left Party is left. And they should take over :p But by the way, I read Sweden’s new EU commissioner Cecilia Malmström said she will do everything she can to stop the data retention in the whole EU.

I don’t like any of the major parties. The greens used to be at least comparably revolutionary, but they’re normalising their stances as well.
Somewhat expectedly I’m a pirate. Although I expect the pirates to eventually grow corrupt just like everyone else, if they survive long enough.
Our “true lefts” are completely nuts, with propositions such as outlawing free schools. Doesn’t sound very leftist to me, albeit I do not know your interpretation of leftism.

CEOP’s new safety films aimed at 5 to 7 year olds also appear to include a miniature version of pedobear as an animated character.
In the film, two mini web surfers are just about to give their personal information to the mini pedobear, when a blue-haired “superhero”, who looks to be in his 20′s or 30′s and talks in an extremely creepy way, pops up, interrupts the conversation and “saves” them.
Presumably this gets across the message that whenever a creepy-sounding blue-haired adult male interrupts your online conversation with someone else in order to “protect” you, you should trust what they say because they might be a superhero. Not such a good idea, because I’ve seen quite a few online predators that operate in just that way (apart from the hair color).
To be fair, though, I guess the basic idea is sound. Kids that age do need to get an idea of basic safety principles, and at present many of them still don’t understand them at 13, never mind 5. The constant whining of “this shouldn’t be necessary if parents supervised their kids properly” is foolish because parents do not. There are 8-year-olds out there with unsupervised access to webcams.
