You people really hate God’s love don’t you.
I think you should read the Bible before you make these foolish comments

Tyler, as a born-again heathen it never ceases to amaze me that otherwise intelligent people can base their whole lives on an anthology of short stories, novellas, and poetry that has been edited, re-edited, translated, re-translated, and generally mucked about for the last 2,000 plus years. I think Isaac Azimov said it best when he wrote, “Properly read, the Bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived.”

Everything is subject to positive and negative energies. Projecting a positive outlook will generally allow positive things to happen, negative thought provokes negative events (although not always). For this very reason people going to church feel good about themselves and that can only be a good thing.
Christians have the right attitude in general, albeit for the wrong reasons, so don’t knock church-goers. The gospels in the bible are contradictory, each evangelist having a different slant on Jesus and his teachings, but there is no doubt Jesus existed and he was a very nice ‘man’. Other than that nobody can say with certainty who or what he was.
The Old Testament is farcical and the first five books were allegedly written by Moses whom I believe to have been a shrewd con-man who manipulated superstitious people into believing natural phenomena (eruption of Santorini 1400BC) to be the works of a supreme being.
Churches preaching hatred should be abolished and marriage straight or gay is just a statement of love between two people, if couples wish to indulge let them, whats the harm? You can pledge your allegiance to a person, a flag or a goat as far as I’m concerned (as long as the goat doesn’t mind).

AbeOrigine, you have me experiencing near-orgasmic side-splitting fits of laughter: “Christians have the right attitude in general, albeit for the wrong reasons, so don’t knock church-goers. ” A lot of people said that about George W. Bush and the same could have been said of some German leaders during the 1930s who we are not allowed to mention by name without causing a firestorm, and as luck would have it, all these were Christian too.
Then, just this last week, there was news of suppression of religious freedom in Sweden when a court denied artist Carlos Bebeacua attempted registration of his Madonna of Orgasm Church as a religious organization.
Now I think Bebeacua is the one who has the right attitude AND for the right reasons! So why are all these other lily-white Christians so threatened since they never tire of telling us how merciful, all tolerant and forgiving they are? And why do they exercise such control over the courts? You mean to tell me that this gibber about us “all being equal under the law” is just another pile of fucking bull shit… a big hoax to keep the status quo intact and in control through the suppression of individual and creative freedom?
And I have another question for you, if “marriage straight or gay is just a statement of love between two people” does that preclude the fact a person can love more than one person? Why not more than one? What if I want to marry three or ten or a hundred people? Do you think I am so stingy with my love?

Uh, conservatives and the US right-wing lean to a demographic that goes to church more than liberals do. And, more conservatives support torture than liberals do, ergo, more churchgoers support torture. Well, whoop-de-do, there’s a headline, Captain Obvious. Could you paint that with a wider brush?
It doesn’t have a damn thing to do with invisible Sky Gods or the bible, it’s a demographic and cultural divide that is inclusive of both facts, and relating “going to church” with “likes to torture” is a strawman argument and is offensive. My sister goes to church, I’m not sure she’d be all for waterboarding a terrorist, though. What’s more important to consider is that the Christianity practiced by most conservatives isn’t anything like what’s preached in the bible.

And one more thing: The loud ones get all the attention these days. That means you see more dumbass arguments like this one. If my fellow countryment in the US would stand the fuck up and be counted instead of acting like sheep, the world would see that the vast majority of Americans do not, and would not, condone torture. We’re just too busy watching ANTM and buying yogurt bars to give a shit.

@Yankee Doodle I was half expecting crap from Mr.Chives but has you ask I’m not against polygamy – although I can’t imagine who would want more than one long term partner with divorce rates the way they are – I just personally cannot see the point of certificating the fact you are in a long-term relationship.
And Christians I know are generally very nice people with forgiving natures, if ‘American Christians’ preach hatred and torture (which I can’t honestly imagine although anything is possible in America) then they are going against the very teachings they profess to adhere to. Leo’s remark in 11. referring to sheep is probably very near the mark, even Jesus refers to his ‘flock’, what a wise man.

@Hermes you are correct but then again there is no evidence to say he didn’t, its just my personal belief! I am probably not one to talk though because I also believe many characters from Greek mythology existed as did Atlantis which sank into sea about ten thousand years ago. The tooth fairy, God and Santa I’m not sure about.
I only usually comment when sanctimonious, pseudo-intellectuals get on their high horses, stating their opinions as facts and ridiculing anyone else that dare have their own opinion. Yankee Doodle had the reaction I like to provoke with his ‘near orgasmic side-splitting fits of laughter’, I hope my generally tongue-in-cheek comments can bring more joy to others as well.
Keep smiling folks!

Wow that transgender-kid video is awesome.
I’ve been to America several times, and I realized what a great country it could be if there weren’t people like Rick Warren. Maybe a good formula to describe the changes needed would be: America – religious facism = best place in the world. Sadly I don’t see that formula being realized anytime soon.
There are legalizations of gay marriage in Iowa and Maine, but let’s see how long it takes for some idiots to overthrow it in Prop 8-style. And even if those laws are held upright, does keep people from continuing to be facists? No.

White Rabbit, it will take a lot more than getting rid of religious fascism to make America the best place in the world, as you say. There are deep rooted problems in the collective psyche of American society that have been festering since the Europeans first landed there. Have you ever noticed how many people who have given up the god illusion then redouble their efforts as moral fanatics?
But you may have far different interests in life from my own. Gay marriage is the very last thing on my mind. I am far more concerned with the growing conservatism (call it fascism if you like) among gays who are rapidly losing diversity among their own ranks and are quick to condemn anyone who doesn’t tow the party line. It has gotten to the point where I don’t even want to be considered “gay” any more. I notice that some of the writers on the new Milkboys blog are saying the same thing.
I suck cock, but maybe better just to say “I’m a cocksucker” and forget about the “gay” agenda which today I feel totally alienated from.
Sidney rants on this in his blog quite often and I find his own thinking on the matter consistent with my own.

@Yankee Doodle you seem to enjoy quoting others (is it because you have nothing worthwhile of your own to say) but again you use the quotations in the wrong context. I apologise. I had credited you with a modicum of intelligence oops.
The quotation from James Joyce was completely irrelevant to the comments you made, were you struggling to find something appropriate, and the quotation by Patchen doesn’t apply to me although you can be forgiven for using it because I understand your lack of comprehension at the point I was trying to make. To clarify this my point was: even
the most ardent atheist is likely to turn to prayer in a life threatening situation!
I understand too your anger (some people never quite come to terms with their sexuality) probably derives from low self-esteem, but I’m sure you really are a worthwhile human being underneath all that pent-up frustration. Don’t worry though there is hope for everyone and in the meantime if you need an emotional punch-bag or a shoulder to cry on I’m here for you.
As for you wanting to marry 3,10 or 100 I don’t object but I would suggest finding 1 to start with. Sidney perhaps? You seem to have a great deal of respect for him. Being ’stingy with your love’ does seem the case with you though because nothing of yours I’ve read would indicate an ability to ‘love’, perhaps you are mistaking love with lust.
