It’s always interested me that normally liberal thinkers can be so right-wing in certain circumstances. Why do we assume that a gay politician – closeted or otherwise – must subscribe to one (our) political point of view and if he or she does not, then that person forfeits a personal life? It’s a right-wing extremist idea that others must conform to our way of thought or be punished… and it’s no more attractive when it comes from the left.
At least the American media outed Mark Foley, right? The republican pedo you know, he who wanted to have oral sex with (rape) innocent prepubescent 17 year old boys. =)
Anyway, what would happen if they outed all these gay politicians? What if they’d resign? Don’t you understand their hard work is needed in the Congress given these days’ surge of immorality? =(

No, they don’t have to support our political point of view, just avoid actively persecuting us. They use their privileged position to enjoy the very same freedoms they try to deny to others.
It’s no secret that the most homophobic people tend to be latent homosexuals.Closeted gays tend to be anti-gay because they hate that part of themselves, and so project that hatred toward the rest of the gay community.With closeted politicians, this is sometimes the case, but not always.Some politicians are just afraid that being gay will cost them their career, and so do whatever they can to make people think they’re straight, which includes anti-gay legislation.

Today Charlie Crist, the republican governor of Florida, announced he is running for the US Senate. Supposedly several guys in this film talk about having sex with Crist, who married in the last year of so, at age 50+, for the first time. Aside from being closeted he is one of the more moderate republicans around today. It’s likely he will get strong opposition from the right wing of the republican party but not overtly because he’s gay. He’s denied he’s gay, and even found a “wife”. But the right wingers, being the swell guys they are, will probably try to hint at his gay-ness in the primary.
