I guess it varies but in most European colonies I know or read about you can go nude or not whenever you feel like it but you don’t have to, especially when you’re in puberty.

Different places have different rules. Where I live, we technically don’t have any legal nude beaches (but we do have one that the police never raid as it is internationally famous), and nudity is by choice. In most nudist colonies in my area, nudity is a requirement for everyone except for teen boys that choose to wear swim suits until they learn how to control their newfound random erections.

For those of you who don’t speak French and who didn’t understand the end…
****SPOILERS FOLLOW****
When Antoinette puts on the dress for the first time, she says that she feels much better with clothes on. She says she wouldn’t have dared to try wearing clothes if it weren’t for him, and that the only reason she was nude before was to please her parents. The scene obviously mirrors the one where he takes off his underwear for the first time, as she makes him close his eyes first, like he did with her.
Then Leo goes to pick up some mushrooms and cooks them for his mother, not telling her that they are presumably “magic” mushrooms (i.e., hallucinogenic). He keeps asking her if she feels her heart beat stronger or if she feels hot, which were both side effects of the mushrooms that he felt before. But his mother feels no different.
At night, she dreams of having sex with the man whose name is also Leo. She says “Put your hands on my breasts, Leo” which is why her son does so. But this wakes her up, and then he realizes that she wasn’t telling him to do it.
He goes to the man Leo and says that he thinks he poisoned his mother with the mushrooms. But the man looks at the mushrooms and assures him that they are harmless. Furthermore, it seems that they have no special properties. Leo (the boy) asks, “So it doesn’t change you? Everything that you feel is real?” Then he runs back to Antoinette’s cabin, yelling “I am myself! I am myself! It’s not the mushrooms!”
He returns to his tent and tells his mother that they must leave immediately, then confesses that he is in love.
The voiceover at the end is “No, no, I’m fine. Why? Do I look like I’m not fine? I’m fine. Perfectly fine.” It’s the same as the voiceover from earlier in the film, when he was afraid to leave the tent.

The actress playing the young girl, Géraldine Martineau, is apparently at least 20yo, sort of a French Ellen Page. Every square centimeter of her naked body is lovingly displayed. Despite the story line, the boy, played by the clearly much younger Marc Baffa, is apparently never naked, even on the set.

i know this is way off topic but why is it ok to show a underage girls breasts and vagina but not ok to show a boys penis… once more i know its off topic and it was a great short but still its the same in every movie, underage or not, they dont like to put a penis on video unless its porn i guess. sigh…. not even the french are brave enough i guess.

In an (online) interview about this short (at the Clermont Ferrand film fest), its director explained how the french government child protection agency prohibited them from filming a minor boy in frontal nude (the girl was 24yo).
He said he got ‘around’ this law by having the boy placed with a plastic fitted replica of his genitalia.
I shit you not.
That’s simply superb!
No end of ridiculous situations, when you apply ridiculous laws.
The reality is that he no doubt didn’t fit the boy with anything, but just said it to avoid probs.
…Or maybe he …did fit him with one. He did it himself, just to make sure…

I was thinking the same thing about what film makers are allowed and not allowed to show. I mean, the film is great, it doesn’t matter what bits get showed or not, but it does seem slightly strange with all these other people running around nude in the nudist camp that even when Leo decides to take his clothes off he is not shown. What is the file type of the download? It says .7z or something? Can you post it as a wmv or wav or something or tell me what .7z is and what I need to play it? Thanks for posting a really interesting film.

7z is an archive format, you can open it with the most common file archivers. I’d recommend using 7-Zip but you can also use WinRAR, WinZIP and so on.

@dejolo: I guess your question is answered already. The ‘girl’ is not a girl at all but in her 20′s, though she certainly looks a LOT younger to me.
I wonder how this would go down in Australia? She may be 24 but as she isn’t a 68DD, this must be encouraging paedophilia!

This film is a brilliant and subtle excercise in youthful education. The boy has discovered his first ‘secret’ of life. In doing so he enters the world of truth. He has learned the secret was not in the mushroom, nor in the whisper, but in his willingness to exchange a bit of innocence for knowledge. His fear as he leaves her will eventually dissapate as he returns to seek out other secrets. Each will empower him to become an adult.

From what I gather at the end as to why Leo pulled away from Antoinette is because wisdom spoke to him quite loudly. While Leo was certain that he was in love with Antoinette, Leo was able to ponder the potential consequences that would’ve been if he had allowed the spirit of passion continue to work on him and Antoinette. I see Leo did the right thing at the moment in preventing what could’ve become a situation with an unwanted teen pregnancy and lots of heartbreak for both parties and their families, so instead he ripped himself away from the potential of that happening, though he did wave back at Antoinette as Leo and his mum drove away. Leo loved Antoinette enough to spare her the inevitable trouble they were at the brink of getting into, and I can imagine eventually Antoinette would come to understand and appreciate too.
