Karma, Content & Free Art
As you know there are quite a lot gay blogs around. So it’s no surprise that you’ll see some photos or videos twice if you check a few of them. Maybe two bloggers found the same photo somewhere or maybe one blogger took a photo from another blog. Some people out there don’t like the fact that others post stuff that was on their blog earlier but that’s how the Internet works. I saw whole articles taken from milkboys posted elsewhere but that’s ok, information should be free to everyone and I take it as a compliment if others post my stuff. And if they use photos I featured on milkboys before… well, I didn’t make most of them by myself so who I am to judge? I don’t own them and my mission is to spread the beauty – that’s exactly what happens.
But there is one thing every blogger could do to prevent dramas like this one and show a little bit respect to the scene :) If you post a photo or video just put a link to the place where you found it under the post. I don’t know the source in any case but if I know the creator or at least the site where I got a photo/video I’ll post their link. It’s easy, it’s fast and it’s makes the blog scene a little bit more friendly :)

Well said, Josh.

I’m always surprized when folks get angry that their stuff is being reposted. For heavens sakes this is the internet! If you post something especially if it’s interesting one should ‘expect’ that it’s going to be used by others.
If you can’t deal with that then lock up your site, and give no one! the password.
This way your swell stuff will to totally safe for ‘you’ to enjoy.
As I’ve said my works have been getting reposted, used by others for years,…GOOD! Just spell my damned name right.

I have been looking and reading many blogs. The majority of them has at least one picture that is on another blog. I agree to give credit to the blogs for any original material that is found, but most photos are from one of the many porn sites’ archives.

@2.
and are you happy if your name was removed from the pics and replaced by the site’s name?
and are you happy if you make a living out of pictures or other digital material and people post those material as well?
well. there are many who respect the work and there are many who don’t. There there will always be all of them but maybe several artists quite producing.

I understand what you say kai. However like I say posting one’s work is to risk it’s misuse. I’d rather post, and take that chance. Yes my drawings have been used without attribution. I expected that, but it’s been rare.
I don’t know, maybe I’ve been lucky, but users have mostly either linked to my blogs or at least given me credit for my own stuff.
Look this is simply the nature of the medium. In fact the same thing used to happen back when I printed ‘zines. I did both mimeo, and offset gay ‘zines back in da day. When my Queer Angel, and Fairy Boy ink sketch’s would turn up in another publication I thought “Cool!”
I remember when a friend gave me copies of British, and New Zealand Queer ‘zines with my stuff in them.
My first thought wasn’t copyright infringement.
No, I was Happy!
It was as if I’d sent messages out into the sea in bottles, and actually got messages back from those that found them. So maybe my attitude is a generational one. In the immediate “Post Stonewall” era we were ‘very’ happy to find each other.
I guess now that we’re all connected, and somewhat organized the joy of discovery has faded,…pity.

i think art should be free as long as others don’t use it to make money.
