Fresh Milk!
Let me state the obvious: milkboys got a new look! I know it might take some time to get used to it for many of you and some won’t like it for one reason or another but let’s face the facts: The old design was pretty old school (in a not so cool way), the grey background made it hard to read longer texts for some and don’t even get me started about the tech under the hood, just trust me when I say it was a pain in the ass (once again not the good kind of it).
The new theme should be easier on the eyes, improve the performance of the blog significantly and was a necessary step into the future to prepare the blog for the features and projects yet to come. You might notice that not everything is running 100% smoothly yet, I’m still working on some graphics (with the kind help of Xag) and pretty much all old posts (more than 1000!) need to be adjusted to to fit the theme. it will take some time, so bear with me ;) This was one of the smaller steps towards “milkboys 3.0” – more exciting news await you soon!

I love the new look!! And our young friend looks very happy under a warm sun, with that fresh breeze. It’s a balmy 12 degrees fahrenheit here in beautiful Colorado, so I appreciate it even more!

How interesting, this is the second blog I regularly visit that’s made an update to its design in the past month that makes it look less personal. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. The site still looks good.

I dislike that it makes the blog feel like any other. The old look was distinct, an identity. Milkboys.
But meh, if this makes things work better.
How crazy have you made posts if they depend on the layout? Use proper markup and it should be independent. Josh! Shame on you. <3

It’s mostly stuff that got fucked up by the old theme (image sizes) and some things I wanted to change anyways (text colour of the image captions, re-organising the locations of the images on the FTP and deleting posts with de-functional pics & videos and stuff that doesn’t fit my quality standards anymore :p)

yeah, it might look less personal, but that’s in a way a good thing. things like readability do matter a lot, and one thing that always stood in its way was the unreflected “uniqueness” of the typical internet site, transported by “unique” color schemes and such..
personality and individuality don’t have to be transported by a color scheme. black on white or white on black is a lot easier to read and therefore the future – internet sites aren’t solely about “let’s spend some time on the internets!” anymore, their content is meant to be read, searched, explored.
i’m sure refinements will follow and make it visually distinct yet compliant to up-to-date understandings of an internet site. so far i really like it. the old grimy look was really going on my nerves already.

This post is not readable at all, there’s a photo of a cute blond boy distracting me. The new look caught me off guard but it’s nice I guess :P. Change is always good.

I like the new theme; its a much clearer read. Maybe a tad too bright, but I guess it only takes some getting used to.
One thing though: when looking at long ‘read-posts’ (like the recent political post ‘Hysteria makes all Sex unsafe’), the post width is so large you tend to lose track of the lines. Comparing to the layout at Classically Liberal, its about 20% bigger.
Oh, and I’ve been wondering about this since I first landed on this site: what does ‘himbeer’ stand for? :p

The new layout is cold and sterile – the old was elegant and had real atmosphere. Frank Loyd Wright was WRONG. Form does not follow function. Form is important in its own right.
But I don’t care. As long as I still find what I’m loooking for, I’m happy.

Josh- all that white background looks like milk! and that boy, looks like milkboys to me, guess Im in the right place. :) I like the red letters on white, easier to read and scroll. Its done when you are happy with it. Namaste

It will take a little getting used to, the colour scheme is a bit “normal” for milkboys. But change is good every once in a while.
I really like the picture though, unfortunately it’s not any bigger.

You did not fix the one thing I REALLY dislike about the site, if you click on a link it does not open in a new window or tab! I constantly find myself getting lost unless it think about it on your site.

Hmmm … you do the work you decide … yet I think the new design makes milkboys look a little generic. And common Milkboys is not like all the countless other “I post boypics” sites. But hey whatever works the easiest i guess. So cheers Josh and keep up the good work
