The EU elections are over and I’d like to know how milkboys readers voted
Salut, dear reader! milkboys is a blog dedicated to the beauty and singularity of teenage boys. Our goal is to collect, perpetuate and exhibit pieces of art and documentation related to them on one hand and to give teen boys a place to hang out and look at other boys without feeling guilty about it on the other. Please refer to our FAQ if you have further questions. Enjoy your stay, leave comments, have some hot chocolate and link us on your blog! Thanks :o)
You found a news story or article that fits in here? A cool video on YouTube, some neat pictures, a piece of art or anything else that you want to share with the milkboys readers? Go ahead and give us a heads up about it here!

I voted for the pirate party. They got 0.9% -_-
In Sweden they reached over 7% and made it into the european parlament.
about 9 months ago
Same here Nimi. But at least they got more than 0,5% of all votes which means they get money for every vote they got.

I voted for Greens but they didn’t make it in Bulgaria and we don’t have Pirate Party :( Lets hope there will be possible to vote for another country’s party next EU elections

me, a friend and my brother voted for the pirates but it felt like voting void… xD i knew that they wouldn’t make the 5 % but i’ve tried at least… 3 ppl out of 43% voter participation so there were to many that didn’t try

I voted for the pirates and even my father did so. :D Too bad that my boyfriend was a little bit too late to give them yet another vote. ^^

Cool, Kristjan. Cheers to your father! :)

We were a whole gang of expat Swedes who voted pirate (in Swedish). And with good results (7,1 percent) even though I thought they would get even more.

Where’s the “I wasn’t not old enough to vote” option?
about 9 months ago
Voted for the greens. They won two seats (one more than before), and the number of greens in the parliament is going to be higher than before. Sadly, the total number of MEPs in the green, socialist and social democratic group is going to be lower. =/

@Jake
Aw, good point, forgot that one :(

My vote went for the Pirates! Won one seat in the parliament for the Swedes! Yaaaay!!!!

I voted for communist, didn’t manage for parliament… In Finland, our pirate party didn’t exist early enough to give any candidates for election.

You’re kidding… right? o.O

@Josh
I certainly *hope* so…
I voted Green (England), but my vote sadly made no difference except to add to the general surge in Green votes. Apparently, if we had the same system as Germany, we’d have sent 8 or 9 Green MEPs to the parliament. Frustrating.
For anyone else from the UK who doesn’t like the idea of any BNP MEPs representing us in any form, sign this and read the Hope Not Hate website in general: BNP? Not in my name!

you’d hope he’d be joking really, given how well documented their anti homosexual rhetoric is, given hes on this site >>

Haha, oh boy, that angle didn’t even occur to me! Nice point. I think we can assume the best.

whoever you vote for, a politician gets in…
i voted green. the bnp are scum and should be deported…
about 9 months ago
greens???? easy to see none of you are irish!!

A vote for the BNP is a wasted vote. If anyone did vote for them they don’t know what they’re doing or they’re a racist. I am against mass immigration like the BNP but that is because they don’t like anyone who isn’t British. I voted for UKIP because they are a non-racist version of the BNP who want to give control back to Westminster and give the 2 fingered salute to Brussells.

I forgot about the elections so I didn’t do anything.

In America, you are free to vote for Candidate A or Candidate B, and the result is the same, just like in the old Soviet Union. I wish we had a Pirate Party.

@gabriel-ernst
You have one actually but it’s not yet registered.

Swedish PP results are even better than the 7.1% mentioned: For the age range under 30, PP results are 23.6%, 1 vote out of 4! So instead of focusing on the minimal voting age, maybe we should do something about the maximum voting age… ;-)
French PP (Parti Pirate) was not part of these elections, but are prepping for the 2010 legional erections. It will be a welcome change from our current PP (Posh President) Nicolas Bling.
You can see how green our prez is by repeating the 2 last words (from this video, in French, sorry) quickly: Qui s’occupera des phoques ? You!
While I am OK with all of the items in the Pirate Party’s Declaration of Principles, I am a bit bothered by the 5-year limit for all copyrights.
The argument from the PP leaders is “Nobody needs to make money seventy years after he is dead“.
It seems a bit harsh to limit the copyright to 5 years after a song is produced. I.e. if you make a song at 25 and are expected to live till 80, that’s a 120 years difference between the PP argument and their proposal. I wonder if there is not a middle way that would give better recognition and financial support to the artists, like reverting all copyright ownership to the artists after 5 years (remember Cat Stevens, the Beatles catalog) and extending the copyright for some more years, at least up to some yearly quota.
Note that this 5-year proposal does not apply to non-commercial use such as file sharing, only to commercial use.
I find it totally unfair that if a producer decides to make a The Very Best of CD, none of the proceeds would go to the artist, it all goes to production and sales.
What do you think?

My favourite comment on the issue: “Given the fact he’s worn that disgusting suit on every TV appearance I’d have a hard time believing he’s a gayer.”

Current UK law still bans the promotion of homsexuality. This is not just a BNP thing…
It just shows how behind the times people are. The only reason that people are homophobic is because once upon a time everyone used to go to church and it was deemed evil or something. Now people barely ever go but because of the years of damage the church did it will be a long time before being different is properly accepted, that goes for other minority groups too.
I love it that all politicians have a colourful past. It’s a shame that all too many of them hide their personalities behind a mask of pompousness and glutony. Whatever happened to ‘keep it real?’ Ali G fans know what I’m talking about! lol

Hey, UKIP came second place in front of Labour and the Liberals haha. Now time to take on the Conservatives!
about 9 months ago
Being an unashamed and unprincipled tactical voter, I voted for Labour (I guess they count as Social Democrats?) in the European elections, and Liberal Democrat in the council elections that happened on the same day. Both did badly. I’ve campaigned for the Green Party in the past, but they seem less politically relevant nowadays. I hate seeing the BNP win seats, but it looks like the good old British “Establishment” is closing ranks against them :) No Pirate Party to vote for in my area as far as I can remember, and I don’t think I would’ve voted for them, but it’s nice that they’re shaking things up a bit.

All things considered I think that Gordon Brown is a great PM, all the negative press he gets is completely unjustified and entirely superficial. The only issue I really have with New Labour is the creeping erosion of civil liberties and the constant invasion of privacy by the state.

I haven’t been in europe since I was eight so I have no idea what’s what anymore. please explain.

You have as much of a clue as us Europeans have. All I hope for is that one day we leave the EU. The £40 million a day could be better spent elsewhere.
The was I see Europe at the moment: Every leader within the EU knows that immigrant want to come to settle in the UK because of how much money we give them to help them settle. So what better way to get all the immigrants out of their country into our than by allowing people to pass freely with no border controls. It’s a joke! Fair play to all the guys at Calais who check all the lorries who come into Britain, that’s a hard job.
